OBIS is the official student organization of D-MTEC students at ETH Zurich. We do our very best to make both your academic and your social life in MTEC as enjoyable as possible. Our mission is to help you achieve your individual career goals through company events and networking opportunities. OBIS is also active in making academic decisions along with professors at department conferences. We participate in VSETH delegate meetings and keep you informed about recent affairs in academic politics. Moreover, one of our key goals is to promote a common identity for MTEC students – to help you integrate with your fellow students, as well as with MTEC Alumni.
Events that we organized for students during last year include:
• Ski trip
• BBQs and Apéros
• Career Dinners
However, the key value proposition of OBIS to students are workshops with potential employers. These events give you a unique opportunity to feel how it would be to work for the companies you are interested in, and ultimately help you shape your own career.
The Master of Science programme at D-MTEC benefits from the large diversity of its students’ backgrounds, involving subject areas such as:
… and far more
Promote your event through our company mail directly to all the MTEC students.
We can help you out to organize a fun activity to get to know the MTEC students in an informal setting.
Do you want to invite the MTEC students to your office? We can promote the event and gather all the interested students.
Give the MTEC students a practical insight into your business and challenge their hands-on skills.
Organisation for European Students of Industrial Engineering and Management
ESTIEM is the organisation for European Students of Industrial Engineering and Management, who combine technological understanding with management skills. Our goal is to establish and foster relations between students across Europe and to support them in their personal and professional development. Our network consists of 75 Local Groups in 29 countries, reaching out to 60 000 students.
The Tournament In Management and Engineering Skills (TIMES) is today considered the largest pan-European case study competition for Industrial Engineering and Management students. This prestigious, highly acclaimed event is the flagship project of the Europe-wide student organisation ESTIEM.
The tournament has successfully been organised for over fourteen years. Two qualification rounds are required in order to be selected for the TIMES Final, which takes place in an annually changing venue in Europe. Before reaching the final stage, all the participants take part in a Local Qualification at their home university. The winning team is then allowed to take part in one of the eight Semi – Finals, which are organised throughout Europe. The Final Week eventually brings together the winning teams from every Semi-Final to determine Europe’s best Industrial Engineering and Management students.
At ETH Zurich it is OBIS that constitutes the local group of ESTIEM. Every year we give the MTEC students opportunities for taking part in many fascinating and outstanding events in Europe such as trainings in different fields, workshops focused on different industrial areas and the TIMES competition.
The TIMES competition has been organised at the MTEC department for many years now. It has always been a great opportunity for our students, especially those, who seek their career in the consulting business. It gives a great chance of learning many new things – such as working under time pressure, managing the team, preparing the presentation in the limited time span with the limited resources available. It is a great chance for the students, to check their skills, and for our partner’s to find the perfect fitting candidate for their company. Additionally, the TIMES competition has also been very much supported by the department, which believes that a healthy competition between the students boosts their interdisciplinary development and gives them the chance to see that the knowledge given at the university can be very useful. In 2014, the team from ETH Zurich ranked second among more than 70 international delegations!
